Six Pack Stabbed A few beers with Young Girls
I first met these guys, back when they were still members of the Factory Party and Springfield Riots. A lot of time and growing up has happened since then (well to some extent), and it is very aperant in their new sound, which will instantly transport you to distant sunny beaches surrounded by beautiful women, camp fires and the ambient hiss of the ocean.
Where did the name come from?
Pete: it was kind of a joke at first, we thought it would be funny to name a band “Young Girls”, cause we’re a bunch of dudes. We had started a band before called Young Girls but it didn’t really work out before. When Charlie started a band we didn’t have a name so we just went with Young Girls.
Charlie: Yeah, especially after Luis joined the band... it fit perfectly (laughs),
Pete: Cause we at least have one young girl (laughs)
Is it because of his tiny hands? or his vagina?
Pete: His tiny vagina! (laughs) just kidding!
How long have you guys been together as Young Girls?
Charlie: 8 months
I’ve noticed that you guys have been getting a lot of press recently, do you think this has something to do with the fan based you developed from your previous bands?
Pete: Yeah, that and we actually went on tour with in a month of the bands existance. working hard immediately.. a lot of hard work. but mostly friends and high places. Just kidding (laughs)
So Charlie and Pete, you guys are both brothers, where did you meet Luis?
Charlie: Met him in high school
Pete: I met him at a party (laughs)
Charlie: We saved him from a train! (laughs)
So do you guys stay on the same instruments or do you take turns on each?
Luis: We switch around.
How long have you been playing music?
Charlie: I’ve been playing since I was 18.
Luis: Yeah about the same time as Charlie.
Pete: For about 17 years now.
Wow, you must have started when you were like 2 years old?
Pete: No I’m old, I’m 31 now. (laughs)
Have you guys tried to get any management or have you gotten any offers to be signed just yet?
Pete: No Comment. we don’t want to spoil the surprise. We’d love to sign with Matador!
Wiat, What about Madonna?
Charlie: I heard “Boarder Line” the other day, that such an awesome song
Luis and Pete: (Laugh)
So who would you guys describe your sound? Indie, pop?
Pete: Surf, Folk....Reggae (laughs) Krunk! Jungle... It’s all inspired by syrup. (laughs)
Charlie: That Purple Stuff (laughs)
So you guys going on tour anytime soon?
Pete: We are planning a small UK and French tour... But due to the lack of funds and a record we are just going to do an east coast tour for spring break. European tour in the summer
So where can people find your music?
Pete: We just put out a 7 inch.. and it’s available at most record stores here in town or you can order it through our website.
Whats your website?
Pete: um.. just on facebook (laughs)
